Life-Saving Devices

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cardiac arrest is one of the leading causes of death around the world. Each year, millions of people die from sudden cardiac arrest. In Italy alone, there are approximately 60,000 cardiac arrests annually - roughly 1 in every 1,000 people.

To improve the chances of survival, it is critical to perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) immediately and use a defibrillator as quickly as possible.

Thanks to Vodafone IoT’s connectivity solution, we’re able to deliver reliable and secure critical services worldwide, enabling rapid and coordinated emergency response when needed. This marks a significant step forward in managing cardiac emergencies.

AMI Italia: Committed to Health and Safety

AMI Italia is an industrial and technology company that has operated in the medical sector for over 30 years. For more than 15 years, it has specialised in manufacturing defibrillators, becoming a major Italian player and growing on the global stage.

Since 2021, a new law has supported the wider adoption of semi-automatic and fully automatic external defibrillators (AEDs), requiring their installation in institutions, service and transport companies. AMI Italia collaborates with healthcare providers, military, sports federations and associations, government bodies, municipalities, businesses, and schools - ensuring that that assistance is always close when a life is at stake.

A Life-Saving Device Powered by NB-IoT Technology This cellular-connected solution enables: • battery status monitoring, • emergency call dispatch to 112, • near real-time ECG transmission.

A connected defibrillator powered by NB-IoT technology represents a major innovation in health and safety. Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) enables the devices to be connected to a low-power, wide-area (LPWA) cellular communication network, ensuring reliable and continuous connectivity.

Additionally, the device features built-in GPS, allowing for precise, real-time geolocation.

Ensuring the defibrillator’s operational status is crucial. With NB-IoT, battery levels and electrode expiry dates can be monitored in near real-time. This enables proactive maintenance and significantly reduces the risk of device failure.

Thanks to this technology, maintenance schedules can be efficiently planned and emergency responses activated without delay. With built-in connectivity, the devices can automatically call the Europe-wide emergency number 112 and immediately alert responders. At the same time, they can transmit real-time electrocardiograms (ECGs) from the patient, allowing medical professionals to assess the severity of the situation and prepare a targeted intervention.

How We Support AMI Italia

Vodafone IoT’s NB-IoT technology ensures AMI Italia’s defibrillators stay connected – even in hard-to-reach areas like underground facilities, well-insulated buildings, or remote locations.

NB-IoT offers strong signal penetration, low latency, and long battery life. Vodafone IoT’s managed connectivity platform also enables centralised device connectivity management, near real-time data access, and robust cybersecurity.

Operating in over 180 countries with access to more than 760 networks, Vodafone's global IoT service provides AMI Italia with with strong, stable connectivity on an international scale.
