Water scarcity is a major issue worldwide, yet even in industrialised countries up to 30% of the water supply can still be lost, mostly due to leaks in underground pipes.

Vodafone IoT has teamed up with SebaKMT, a leader in water loss detection and reduction systems, to help locate and resolve leaks faster by using cellular-connected IoT sensors. Using Vodafone’s Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) cellular network, leaks can be detected in near real time – even deep underground – speeding up repairs, preventing economic losses and avoiding fines for exceeding legal water loss limits.

SebaKMT uses its ‘SmartEAR’ sensors to detect leaks in water pipes by analysing noise and frequency patterns. However, in the past, technicians often relied on 6-monthly site visits to retrieve data from the sensors, meaning that leaks went undetected for a long time.

By fitting the sensors with a Vodafone IoT SIM, the data can now be transmitted instantly for analysis via Vodafone’s Managed IoT Connectivity Platform with the results then presented clearly on SebaKMT’s cloud platform POSEYEDON. What’s more, the managed IoT connectivity platform allows SebaKMT to set up and activate all its IoT SIMs from one central location. For more information, please visit here:
