Internet of Things (IoT) solutions are helping Albanian farmers move from traditional methods to data-driven, sustainable and efficient agriculture.
For the fourth year in a row, Vodafone Albania participated in Albania’s largest sector-specific exhibition dedicated to the agricultural industry as its main digital partner.
Held in the central western city of Lushnje, the international ‘Agricultural Days’ fair highlighted the importance of digital agriculture in tackling climate change, ensuring food security and driving economic growth.
, Albania’s agricultural sector plays a crucial role in the country’s economy, accounting for 18% of gross domestic product and employing one third of its population. However, making the gathering, processing and distribution of products more competitive, innovative and eco-friendly remain important challenges, and IoT can help.
As a global leader in IoT services, Vodafone already serves over 2,000 agribusinesses in 12 countries. In Albania, Vodafone offers services such as Smart Agro IoT Connectivity and Smart Fleet management - helping farmers, suppliers and distributors monitor conditions in real-time, conserve natural resources, improve efficiency, and reduce operational costs.
In particular, Vodafone Albania’s Smart Agro solution uses localised IoT-connected weather stations and soil sensors to provide real-time data and insights, helping farmers make informed decisions about irrigation, fertilizer use and harvesting to optimize their operations.
